How to provide a public Github email?

In the public version of the TrustSource Vulnerability lake, it is possible to register using a Github account. This is required, if you opt for subscription of vulnerability information.

When you log in with your Github account, the public mail address given in the account is taken as the recipients mail address to forward alerts to. In case the mail address has not been setup, we will not allow to create subscriptions (It just does not make sense to generate alerts without recipients).

If you see a message stating that your account does not provide a public mail, please got to you Github account at https://github.com and login.

Select  "Your profile" from the drop down and see whether your profile shows an email address. If it looks like the one below on the left, you might not yet have setup an email address. To do so, follow these steps:

1. From the drop down under your avatar in the upper right corner select "Settings"

2. In the section "Emails" section you have the option to add email addresses to your account. Please make sure these are valid mail addresses. Github will only accept verifiable mail addresses. You will require access to the corresponding mailboxes to receive the verification mails. However, we recommend to provide more than one mail address/aliases.  

3. Once you have created one or more emails and verified them by clicking on the verification links received, you may switch back to the "Profile" section within the "Settings" navigation on the left.

4. Here you may select the "Public email" from those addresses that you successfully verified. Your are done!

PLEAE NOTE: If you have set the mail already but it still does not appear in the profile view, another reason may be that you have selected "Keep my email addresses private" in the "Settings / Emails" section. We strongly encourage you to select a mail address respectively an alias as public address, that you use only for your Github account. Make sure, it is not identical with your user-name or primary mail address! This will allow you to change it without further harm, in case the amount of spam you might receive one day exceeds an acceptable level.
